OAQs ( Occasionally-Asked-Questions)

I'm sorry, who are you again? Have we met?

I'm Sarah Chloe Thewlis of course! I'm a seventeen year old English/Welsh girl currently living in Spain. I'm still at school, but in my spare time I write books, one of which is soon to be published by Libros International . My debut novel, "A Taste of Sky," is still in the process of being edited, so in the meantime I'm using my blog as an outlet for all the literary and philosophical rantings that would otherwise drive my friends and family insane. I apologise in advance if any readers do develop some form of insanity, it can be a side-effect of prolonged exposure to sarahcthewlis.com.

Have we met? I don't know, you tell me.

How come you're getting a novel published? Shouldn't you be out partying like a normal teenager?

If ever there was a time when I didn't want to become a writer, it's too long ago now for me to remember. It's a cliché, I know, but it really has been my life-long ambition. I was probably about seven when I had my first poem published in a newspaper. It went like this;

Under a bridge where water does not flow,
I know a poppy doth grow,
Her petals are of green silk,
The clouds above her are white as milk,
When I leave her my heart fills with pain,
For I know I will not see her again.

Doesn't it just embody all the poignancy of the passage of time, the transcience of innocence and beauty, while also serving as a critique of humanity's corrupting influence on the simplicity and harmony of nature? Had Keats been reincarnated as a blonde seven-year-old girl with a penchant for my little pony?

Well no, of course not, but nevertheless, it was the start of my literary career. I carried on writing short stories and poems, some of which were published and won competitions, but it wasn't until I was thirteen that I attempted a novel. Along with two of my friends and fellow bibliophiles, I embarked on the epic literary challenge; NaNoWriMo (try it, you know you want to!). I can now say that I have written four books. Yay! The only drawback is that I lost the first one, the second is a barely coherent, Holden-esque stream of teenage consciousness and the third is a ridiculously stereotypical fantasy collaboration (you know the sort; blonde elven princess, dark, evil knight, riding horses and falling in love for 100 000 words.) Which leaves my darling, "A Taste of Sky," as the only one that can be read without me screeching with embarrassment and snatching it away.

My publishing contract came about as a result of a short-story competition I won, held by Libros International. The commended entries, including my own story "Ink," have been published in the anthology "A Choir of Voices."

As well as having an innate love of all things literary, I'm also an aspiring philosopher, so my philosophical ideas tend to leak out into my fiction. A recent philosophical achievement that gained me some local fame was winning the Edgar Jones Philosophy Essay Competition held by St Peter's College, Oxford.

So there you have a brief history of my literary career. To answer your second occasionally(if ever)-asked-question, there is no such thing as a normal teenager, each one is a species apart. And besides, me and my characters throw the wildest parties in my mind. And no, you're not invited.

The Intrernet is horrible

I'm sure you've realized by now that your website has been posted on Reddit.com and the great internet monster has attacked your page. On behalf of the rest of Reddit who aren't immature geeks looking for a quick laugh inside their heads...because we know no one else is around to laugh with them...I would like to congratulate you on being an awesome ambitious writer and sticking to your guns. Keep up the good work with writing and go for your dreams. And as for all the immature people who posted on her...just know that you'll probably be happier, and probably more famous than anyone of them. Sincerely, The rest of Reddit who would not like to be known for the rest of the comments put on here.

Sarah, You've been a highly ambitious person and I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors, although it seems you already know where you want to go in life and have laid more than a solid foundation for your future success. Sorry everyone from reddit says random things... its what happens. Once again, awesome job so far, and best wishes for continued success!!

Just so you know

15 is age of consent in Spain so the "when are you 18" questions don't really matter.
